Douglas Budget - May 22, 1980Funeral services for Harold Arthur Blackburn were held at the Stark Lapham Funeral Home on May 13, 1980. Interment was in the Glenrock Cemetery. He died on May 9 at the Natrona County Memorial Hospital following a short illness.
Blackburn was born to George A. Blackburn and Leah Katherine Heron Blackburn at Matooh, Illinois on Feb. 8, 1906. He spent his childhood in Matooh and Rochelle, Illinois.
He was married to Florence Reinke on July 11, 1922 at Rochelle where they made their first home.
Blackburn came to Wyoming for the first time in October of 1922. He returned to Wyoming in July of 1926 when he went to work for the Allen Cattle Company of Cheyenne.
Mrs. Blackburn and their two children joined him in December of the same year. In 1929 they came to Glenrock where Mr. Blackburn worked for the Glenrock Sheep Company; he also worked in the Parkerton Oil Field, and on various ranches around Glenrock. In 1936 they invested in a dairy herd and remained in this business for over 20 years.
In 1940 they settled in the LaPrele Community near Natural Bridge where they have remained. Here they finished raising their family, two of which have settled in this same community.
Blackburn served for several years on the LaPrele Ditch Company Board and the Pleasant Valley School Board.
Survivors include seven children; Glen Blackburn, Cheyenne; Georgia Hoffman, Glenrock; Patricia Sanders, Fortine, Montana; Robert Blackburn, Douglas; Lucille Stock, Douglas; James Blackburn, Glenrock; and Gerald Blackburn, Douglas; 15 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and a sister, Freda Bender of Florida.
