Douglas Budget - February 4, 1982Funeral services for Art (Broken Jaw) Bednarz, 59, were held Friday, Jan. 29 at 2 p.m. at Start-Lapham Funeral Home in Douglas, with Pastor George Stephan officiating.
Mr. Bednarz died Monday morning in Ruston, LA., after a brief illness.
He was born July 10, 1922 in Rugby, N.D. He had been employed by Rogers Exploration, Inc. of Houston for more than twenty years, spending most of that time overseas in Africa and Mideast countries. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy, and at one time, all seven brothers in the family were members of the armed forces.
He held a lifetime membership in the American Legion, was a member of the Douglas Moose Lodge and the Knights of Silver Spruce.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers and is survived by four brothers; ray of Rugby, N.D., John and Robert of Browerville, Minn., Clarence (Pat) of Fairmont, W.V. and a sister, Mrs. Margaret Ness of Thief River Falls, Minn.
Active pallbearers were Don Sullivan, I.B. Rupe, Merwin Schlichting, Curly Epperly, Ed Smith and Jerry Burback. Honoraries were Tom Burley, Walt Murphy, Jack Sullivan, Marcus Graves, Jack Cowger, H.C. Brown, Rudy Toffan, Rich Davis, Marvin Ashton, Heiner Benecke, Carroll Bruns, Bruce McLoy, John Robbins, Coy Phillips, Herb Bergman and Dick Jones.
Memorials to the American Legion Youth Program would be appreciated by the family and may be left at the American Legion or mailed to P.O. Box 1 in Douglas.
Interment was in the Legion plot in Douglas Park Cemetery.
