Douglas Budget - January 5, 1984Funeral services for Ralph Lester Burton, Sr., age 62, were held Tuesday, Jan. 3, 1984 at 2 p.m. at the Converse Funeral Chapel with Pastor Dale Lennon officiating. Interment was in the Douglas Park Cemetery.
Mr. Burton died unexpectedly at the Converse County Memorial Hospital in Douglas Thursday, Dec. 29, 1983.
Ralph Lester Burton was born July 7, 1922 at Douglas, Kansas the son of Ernest L. and Ella M. Breashers Burton. At a young age he moved with his parents to Borger, Texas, where he was reared and educated. He surved (sic)in the U.S. Air Corp during WW II, 1944 to 1946.
He was married to Val Jean Slaybaugh Dec. 16, 1948 at Borger,, Texas. He was employed with Phillips Petroleum Company for 32 years. He moved to Douglas in 1970, and has remained a resident until the time of his death.
He is survived by his wife of Douglas, Wy.; four sons, Ralph Lester, Jr. of Douglas, Robert Dan Burton of Douglas, Raymond Kent Burton of Beatrice, Neb., and Ronald Eugene Burton of Douglas, Wy.; one brother, William Ray Burton of Houston, Tx.; one sister, Lucille Morrow of Borger, Tx.; four grandsons; and two granddaughters.
Ralph was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Betty; and three granddaughters.
Serving as pallbearers were Bob Fay, Bob Hunsicker, Corky Berens, Floyd Kolbet, Jerry Sober, and Carlos Mesa. Serving as honorary pallbearers were Harold Rieker, Truitt Gibson, Dennis Rogers, Ken Carey, Larry Gubbels, and Tiny Stuart.
The Converse Funeral Chapel of Douglas is in charge of the arrangements.
