Douglas Budget - January 24, 1980Services for Dr. George T. "Shorty" Brooks, 82, of Douglas were held Jan. 17 at the First Baptist Church with Pastor Brad Saffell officiating. Interment was in Douglas Park Cemetery.
Brooks died Jan. 13 at the Natrona County Memorial Hospital of injuries received after he was struck by a vehicle.
He was born June 10, 1897 at Aberdene, South Dakota and moved to Montana where he was raised. He served in the World War I medical corps and later moved to Lusk and worked as a carpenter and a cowboy.
He married Melissa Saffell on March 22, 1919 at Lusk and moved to Douglas in 1926 and took employment in a clothing store. He later owned his own clothing establishment and after studying Podiatry served as a foot doctor for the Douglas area.
He was a member of the National Podiatrist Association and the Wyoming Podiatrist Association.
Survivors include daughters Norma and Lois Jean Brooks of Douglas; a sister, Mrs. Harold Saffell of Sheridan and nephew, Brad Saffell of Yakima, Washington.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary and a son who was still born.
