Douglas Budget - August 18, 1993Funeral services for Donald W. Ballard, 59, were held Aug. 13, at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Bill Moore officiating. Interment was held in the Douglas Park Cemetery.
Mr. Ballard died Tuesday, Aug. 10 at the Converse County Memorial Hospital.
He was born June 27, 1934, at his grandparent's home near Bill, the son of William E. and Elisabeth R. (Schick) Ballard Sr.
He was reared on the Ballard Ranch attending country school and then attended and graduated from Douglas High School, where Pete Petranovich was his favorite teacher.
Following graduation he attended a business college in Rapid City, S.D. for one year, and then lived and worked with his parents on the family ranch.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and Moose Lodge No. 602. He was fond of and loved children, playing cards at the Moose, cooking, and listening to spiritual and western music.
He is survived by his mother of Douglas; and two brothers, Kenneth Ballard of Laramie and Richard J. Ballard of Americus, Ga.
He was preceded in death by his father on June 4, 1978; and one brother, William E. Ballard Jr. on March 10, 1992.
Serving as pallbearers were Duane Ballard, Lester Ballard, Dave Hanlin, Ted Walton, Dave Thomson, and Clayton Dixon.
Honorary pallbearers were Stanley Lundberg, Pete Petranovich, Bob Stoddard and Neil Irene.
A memorial to the Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children, Virginia Street at Fairfax, Salt Lake City, UT 84103 would be appreciated by the family.
The Converse Funeral Chapel of Douglas was in charge of the arrangements.
