Douglas Budget - January 30, 2002A celebration of the life of Laurence Howard Bennett, 55, was held Dec. 6 in California.
Mr. Bennett died suddenly Dec. 6 at his home in Orcutt, Calif.
He was born Aug. 21, 1946, in Madison, Wisc., to Donald and Betty (Peterson) Bennett. He was a Santa Maria, Calif., resident for the past nine years and recently completed his master's degree at Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo. Although he had worked as a heavy equipment repairman, he attained his goal of completing his degree and was prepared to teach at Allan Hancock College.
Mr. Bennett lived in the Glendale, Calif., area and was a member of International Union of Operating Engineers, Local #12. Throughout his years he touched the hearts of those he knew. He will be sorely missed.
Mr. Bennett is survived by his wife of 14 years, Patricia A. Bennett of Orcutt; son Charles D. Bennett of Glendale; daughter and son-in-law Melissa and Jim Sperling of Perris, Calif.; stepdaughters Keeley and husband Clark Atterbury of Alta Loma, Calif.; and Lisa Christensen of Monterey Park, Calif.; grandchildren Jonathan and Kimberly Atterbury of Alta Loma; mother and stepfather Betty and Bill Ewell of Douglas; brother and sister-in-law Raymond and Debbie Bushnell of Salt Lake City, Utah; and sisters and brothers-in-law Donna and Cliff Setterlund of Red Bluff, Calif., and Deborah and Steve Walton of Douglas.
Memorials to the American Diabetes Association would be appreciated by the family.
