Douglas Budget - May 8, 2002A Funeral Liturgy for Donna B. Baker, 72, was held May 6 at St. James Catholic Church in Douglas with Father Jan Santich of St. Patrick's Catholic Church of Wheatland as Celebrant.
Vigil for the Deceased was held May 5 at Converse Funeral Chapel in Douglas. Interment was at Douglas Park Cemetery.
Mrs. Baker died May 1 at Poplar Living Center in Casper.
She was born Aug. 14, 1929, in Sioux City, Iowa, to Rollins and Florence (Sabers) Carpenter. She was reared and educated in several small towns in South Dakota, finishing school in Huron, S.D.
On Oct. 13, 1946, she married Fred Baker in Huron. They moved to Fremont, Neb., then to Douglas.
Mrs. Baker was a foster mother for several children. She was an active member of St. James Catholic Church, Homemakers Club and TOPS. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, gardening, baking and cooking.
She is survived by her daughter Peggy A. Hershley and husband Alan of Douglas; sisters Naoma Manolis of Sun City, Ariz., and Judith Jungemann of Huron; brother James Carpenter of Aberdeen, S.D.; grandchildren David Hershley of Jewell, Iowa, and Paul Hershley and Ruth Hershley of Douglas; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Fred on March 3, 1999; and brothers Russell Carpenter and Richard Carpenter.
Serving as pallbearers were Harry Richards, Ken Johnson, Kelly Engleman, Ernie Land, Jim Miller and Bill Miller.
Memorials to the charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family.
