Douglas Budget - May 26, 2004Funeral services for Myron J. Brooks, 52, were held May 19 at Gorman Funeral Homes-Converse Chapel in Douglas, with Tim Tillard as eulogist.
Interment was at Douglas Park Cemetery.
Mr. Brooks died May 17, 2004, at Evanston Regional Hospital.
He was born Jan. 25, 1952, in Miles City, Mont., to J.L. and Juanita Bernice (Myers) Brooks. He was reared and educated in Buffalo and graduated from Buffalo High School in 1971.
On Aug. 16, 1975, he married Teresa Lenz in Buffalo. They resided in Linch until 1981, when they moved to Douglas. In 1997, they moved to Crawford, Neb. He worked for Stafford Well Service from 1975-97. He owned and operated several bars and restaurants in the panhandle of Nebraska.
Mr. Brooks enjoyed golfing, going to Las Vegas, horse racing, all types of sports and spending time with his grandchildren. He did many deeds for the youth of the communities he was involved with.
He is survived by his wife Teresa of Crawford; mother Juanita Needens of Buffalo; daughters, their husbands and children, Michelle and Brian Buckinham and Brianna, Allison and Brock of Boise, Idaho, and Kary and Shea Gunkel and Cael of Colorado Springs, Colo,; brother and wife Allen and Teresa Brooks and their sons Jake and Bart of Buffalo; sisters and their husbands Sandy and Dick Rives of Arvada, Colo. and Betty and Ron Knutson of Havre, Mont.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, J.L. Brooks; stepfather Bill Needens; and son Shelby J. Brooks on March 16, 2001.
Pallbearers were Allen Brooks, Jake Brooks, Bart Brooks, Tim Tillard, Carl Andreen, Scott Stafford, Dave Moody and Tony Storebeck.
A memorial has been established to the Shelby J. Brooks Memorial Scholarship Fund in care of Converse County Bank, P.O. Box 689, Douglas 82633.
Gorman Funeral Homes-Converse Chapel of Douglas was in charge of the arrangements.
