Douglas Budget - July 16, 1970Funeral services for Oscar Martin Blaisdell were held Monday, July 13, at Deadwood, So. Dak., with the Rev. Milo Dailey of St. John's Episcopal Church officiating. Interment was in Oak Ridge cemetery.
Mr. Blaisdell died Thursday, July 9, at St. Joseph's hospital in Deadwood four days after being admitted. He had been in failing health for some time.
He was born in Douglas June 10, 1888 to Della May and John C. Blaisdell, and the family home was located where the Masonic Temple now stands. He graduated from Douglas High School and from college at Greeley, Colo. Mr. Blaisdell worked for Jesse Morsch and the elder Morsch for many years in Douglas.
On August 12, 1931 he was married to Blanche Bellamy in Belle Fourche, South Dakota. He was employed as a bookkeeper for Hendrie and Boltoff until it closed, later working for the Oldsmobile Co. until 1962. Then until his retirement, he was with an insurance agency.
He was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church and was one of the first members of the Masonic Lodge in Douglas.
In addition to his wife he is survived by seven step-children; Mack E. Bellamy, Brighton, Colo., Mrs. Frank Montieth, Huxton, Colo., Mrs. Arthur Howard and Mrs. James Marsden, both of Douglas, Mrs. Glen Fox, Wichita Falls, Tex., Mrs. Neil Schoonover, Valley Falls, S.D. and Mrs. Kenneth Clements, Deadwood; also 14 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Howard and Mrs. Marsden attended the funeral services.
A memorial at St. John's has been established.
Pallbearers were sons-in-law of Mr. Blaisdell-Jim Marsden, Art Howard, Neil Schoonover, Kenneth Clements, Russell May, and Glen Fox.
