Douglas Budget - February 19, 1987Funeral services for Velma E. Blanton, 66, were held Wednesday, Feb. 18 at the Converse Funeral Chapel with Karen L. Clark of the Congregational United Church of Christ officiating.
Mrs. Blanton died Saturday, Feb. 14 at her home near Bill following a long illness.
She was born Feb. 15, 1920 at Reeds, Mo. to Louis and Daisy (Gividen) Graham. She lived there until the age of nine. She then moved with her parents to Wheatland. She graduated from the Wheatland High School.
She lived in various places before moving to Douglas in 1973, residing most of the time in the Bill area. She was a member of the Dry Creek Homemakers Club.
She is survived by her husband, Elmo Blanton, of Douglas; two sons, John Habel of Medicine Bow and Benjamin J. Cohen of Australia; two stepsons, Dennis Blanton of Price, Utah and Douglas Smith of Rawlins; three daughters, Ann Lee of Torrington, Debra Cohen of Cheyenne and Diana Harmon of Douglas; one stepdaughter, Dema Stratton of Henry, Neb.; one brother; seven sisters; and 21 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one stepson, Daniel Blanton; two brothers; and one grandson, David Mitchell.
A memorial to the Hospice Cancer Treatment Center in Casper would be appreciated by the family.
Serving as honorary pallbearers were Wayne Veal, Brian Armstrong, Jerry Ault and Dave Harris.
The Converse Funeral Chapel of Douglas was in charge of the arrangements.
