Douglas Budget - May 27, 1992Funeral services for Barbara J. Broderdorp, 60, were held Tuesday, May 26, at the First United Methodist Church in Douglas, with Rev. Jon Laughlin officiating.
Interment was in the Douglas Park Cemetery.
Mrs. Broderdorp died Thursday, May 21, 1992 at her home in Douglas following a long illness.
She was born March 11, 1932 in Kearney, Neb., the daughter of Gilles L. and Grace(McCall)Downey. she was raised in Pleasanton, Neb., and attended Sartoria school. During Barbara's high school years, the Downey family moved to Grand Island, Neb., where she graduated in 1950.
Barbara attended Kearney State in Kearney, where she received a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. Her first teaching position was in Sunrise, Wyo., where she taught for over two years.
She was married to J.Russell Broderdorp on Dec. 28, 1957 in Grand Island. They moved to Douglas in 1967. She taught Elementary Education in Douglas for 25 years.
She was active in Delta Kappa Gamma and the First United Methodist Church, where she held various positions.
She is survived by her husband, Russ Broderdorp, of Douglas; two daughters, Carla Marcus and Carol Wortham both of Douglas; two sons, Kurt Broderdorp of Laramie, and Craig Broderdorp of Washington, D.C.; one sister, Marilyn Jacobs of Joplin, Mo.; one brother, G.Lowell Downey of Hutchinson, Kan.; and five grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one daughter, Kristi A. Broderdorp.
Serving as pallbearers were Kurt Broderdorp, Craig Broderdorp, Christopher Marcus, Roy Wortham, Mike Jacobs, and Steve Schaneman.
A memorial to the Converse Community Nursing Fund or to the American Lung of Wyoming would be appreciated by the family.
The Converse Funeral Chapel of Douglas was in charge of the arrangements.
