Botkin, Gary Warren (January 19, 1951 - September 30, 1997)

Gary Warren Botkin

Douglas Budget - October 15, 1997

Funeral services for Gary Warren Botkin were Oct. 4 at Williams Funeral Home in Anthony Kan., with the Rev. Paul Irwin officiating.

Mr. Botkin was born Jan. 19, 1951, to John Warren Botkin and Betty Jean Prouse in Harper, Kan. He attended school in Kansas, Minnesota and Arizona, returning to Kansas as a young man.

He was baptized in the Christian Church during his childhood. As a young boy, camping and hunting trips with family and friends fueled a love for the mountains and rugged outdoors. He held many fond memories of those trips and loved to share his many stories.

In 1967, he married Virginia (Ginny) Ann Smithhisler, and to this union one child was born, Jesse Lee.

Mr. Botkin's talent for restoring and refinishing cars became his career. Starting with Fred Jones at Fred's Body Repair in Anthony was only the beginning for him.

In May of 1974, he married Gayle Lynn Hodson, and to this union two children were born, Amy Lynn and Eric James. His love for the west and mountains continued to grow, so he moved his young family to Wyoming. He worked for Roger's Ford in Douglas and was chosen top body shop manager in the Denver district, an award of which he was extremely proud.

He successfully owned and operated his own body shop in Douglas for many years. In the late 1980s, Mr. Botkin returned to Kansas and found a small home in the country where he could keep his animals and continued in auto body work.

He had numerous friends, many lifelong, from all walks of life. Strangers were only friends he hadn't met, and they were always welcome in his home. He never judged or condemned, but accepted people as they were, regardless of the path they had chosen.

In July of this year, his health deteriorated suddenly, changing his life dramatically. On Sept. 30, Mr. Botkin passed away.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Harold O. and Iva M. (Turner) Prouse; paternal grandparents, Frances E. and Hazel M. (McCully) Botkin; and uncle Herbert Prouse.

He is survived by sons Jesse Botkin of Glenrock and Eric Botkin of Newcastle; daughter Amy Botkin of Spearfish, S.D.; mother Betty Prouse of Jet. Okla.; father John Botkin of Argonia, Kan.; sister Rita and her husband Johnny Jefferis of Anthony; nieces, nephews, other extended family; and many friends.

Mary Jo Hodson was the organist.

Casket bearers were Alan Mardis, Adam Jefferis, Dickey Joe Greve, David Botkin, Paul Jefferis and Stan Botkin.

Interment was in Forest Park Cemetery in Anthony. Memorials to St. Jude Children's Hospital, American Heart Association or Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks would be appreciated by the family.
