Douglas Budget - August 10, 2005Services for Martha L. Bailey, 82, were held Aug. 4 at the Kline Frost Funeral Chapel in Belle Fourche, S.D., with a burial following at the Pine Slope Cemetery.
Martha died of lung cancer July 31, 2005, at the Pioneer Nursing Home in Gillette. She was born April 11, 1923, in Belle Fourche to John & Loda Kirk. She grew up and was educated in the Belle Fourche area.
She married Gerald Dean (Mickey) Blackford on Aug. 2, 1941. They lived on the family ranch in Pinnacle, Mont., until Gerald's death in January 1952.
On Dec. 24, 1952, she married Ernest (Red) Norman. They made their home in Belle Fourche and Chadron until a boating accident claimed the life of Red on April 15, 1959.
Martha then moved back to Belle Fourche and married Dean E. Bailey on Jan. 10, 1961. They ranched on Oak Creek in Aladdin until Dean's death in May of 1978.
Martha sold the ranch and moved to Sun City, Ariz., then later to Wickenburg, Ariz., Fountain Colo., and Douglas, before moving to Gillette in May of 2005.
She was a long-time member of the Order of the Eastern Star of Sundance and Hulett. She enjoyed planting flowers, sewing and all types of crafts. One of her greatest enjoyments was bowling, which she was doing until March of this year.
Survivors include three sons, Kirk Blackford of Gillette, Gerald Blackford of Safford Ariz., Allen Bailey of Colorado Springs; two daughters, Judy Cronn of Colorado Springs and Renee' Phoenix of Bonnie Lake, Wash.; three sisters and a brother, Dorothy Frerich of Whitefish, Mont., Mary Huff of Toppenish Wash., Marjorie Fink of Arizona and John Kirk of Spearfish; and five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
