Douglas Budget - April 28, 1993Services for Daniel O. Ballard, 73, were held April 26 at the Ballard Funeral Home in Cody with Rev. Warren Murphy officiating. Interment followed in Riverside Cemetery.
Mr. Ballard died April 21, 1993, at West Park Hospital in Cody.
He was born July 16, 1919, at a ranch near Douglas, the son of Daniel William Abraham and Mary Elizabeth Markle Ballard.
Dan graduated from Douglas High School. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and enrolled in St. Louis Embalming School in St. Louis, Mo.
He married Flora Jean Ballard on July 11, 1942, in Olympia, Wash.
Upon completion of his education, Dan and Jean moved to Casper where he was employed by Bustard Funeral Home from 1947 until moving to Cody in 1951.
In Cody, he established Ballard Funeral Home which he owned and operated until July 1, 1987, when he sold the funeral home and retired.
He was a member of the I.O.O.F. Lodge, the B.P.O. Elks Lodge, the F.O.E. Lodge, the American Legion and the V.F.W. Lodge.
In addition, he had been a member of the Cody Rotary Club, the Wyoming Funeral Director's Association and the Episcopal Church.
His survivors include his wife, Jean of Cody; two daughter, Sandra Jean Boyer and her husband, Glenn, of Ballantine, Mont. and Susan Lynn Potter of Tustin, Calif.; a brother, Melvin Ballard of Douglas; a sister, Mabel E. Dixon of Oregon; five grandchildren, Bret Boyer, Todd Boyer and his wife, Lynn, Nicole Boyer, Lincoln Potter and Carson Potter; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Emmett and Carroll Ballard.
The family suggests those wishing to make donations do so to the charity of their choice in Dan's memory.
