Douglas Budget - April 28, 1993Services for Jean M. Ballard, 73, were held April 26 at the Ballard Funeral Home in Cody with Rev. Warren Murphy officiating. Interment followed in Riverside Cemetery.
Mrs. Ballard died April 24, 1993, at West Park Hospital in Cody.
She was born Sept. 11, 1919, in Bloomfield, Neb., the daughter of Sylvester Ancel and Flora M. Lundberg Miles.
Jean attended schools in Douglas and after graduation completed her education by obtaining a teaching degree. She first taught at a small country school and later in Douglas.
She married Daniel O. Ballard on July 11, 1942, in Olympia, Wash., where he was stationed in the Army.
After their marriage, Jean and Dan lived in Washington, Georgia and Missouri. They moved to Casper in 1947. In 1951, they moved to Cody where they established Ballard Funeral Home. Jean assisted Dan for many years in the funeral business. She also worked at a bookkeeper for Egbert Calkins later, Clarance Kramper.
For many years, Jean was an active Episcopal Church member and a leader for Jobs Daughters. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, the B.P.O.Does, the Rebekah Lodge and the V.F.W. Auxiliary.
Jean enjoyed bridge and participated in various bridge clubs. She also enjoyed gardening.
Her survivors include two daughter, Sandra Jean Boyer and her husband, Glenn of Ballantine, Mont., and Susan Lynn Potter of Tustin, Calif.; a brother, Rex A. Miles of Chappaqua, N.Y.; five grandchildren, Bret Boyer, Todd Boyer and his wife Lynn, Nicole Boyer, Lincoln Potter and Carson Potter; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Dan.
