FOR JOHN BENSON
Douglas Budget - March 28, 1974Funeral services were held in Cheyenne Friday for John L. Benson of Glendo, who died Tuesday, March 19 at DePaul Hospital. Burial was at Memorial Gardens following 2 p.m. service at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, with the Rev. R. A. Chalstrom officiating.
Pallbearers were Clyde Cundall, W.F. Smith, William Trenholm, Tom Walsh,, Everett Engling and Cliff Adson.
Benson was a long time resident of Cheyenne, having moved there in 1925. He was married to Mina Achwerdt on May 25, 1927 in Cheyenne. The couple moved to Glendo ten years ago.
An employee of the Foreman Car Shop of the Union Pacific Railroad. Benson was born October 18, 1901, in Nebraska. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, UP Old Timers and Woodmen of the World.
In 1967 the couple's oldest son, Raymond was killed in Vietnam.
In addition to his wife, Mina Benson is survived by five children, Jess Benson, of Cody, Mrs. Robert Montgomery of Lake Havasu City, Ariz.; Thomas Benson of Cheyenne, Lornce Benson of Los Angeles, Calif. and John R. Benson of Lake Havasu City, Ariz.
Also surviving are brothers and sisters, Floss French of Long Beach, Calif.; Alice Foss of Eugene, Ore.; Ted Benson of Eugene, Ore.; Viola Williams of Long Beach, Calif.; George Benson of Ralston; Kathryn Lancaster of Long Beach, Calif.; and Fred Benson of Boise, Idaho.
