SGT. BENSON KILLED IN VIETNAM

Mr. and Mrs. John Benson of Glendo received official word last Thursday of the death of their son, 1st Sgt. Raymond E. Benson, a paratrooper with the 101st Airborne Division. A veteran of 19 years military service, Sgt. Benson was in Vietnam by his own choice. His tour of duty would have ended in 36 days. He had earlier been reported missing in action, when a plane in which he was a passenger crashed on takeoff and burned, on Sunday, April 23.

Benson was born and resided in Cheyenne, was graduated from high school there in 1946, and enlisted in the Army. He saw action in Korea, where he was twice parachuted behind enemy lines. He recently received the Army Commendation Medal for heroism in Vietnam. Benson is survived by his widow and three children at Nashville, Tenn., his parents, 3 brothers and a sister. Funeral arrangements are pending.
