Funeral liturgy for Donald W. Bennick, 92, was held March 15 at St. James Catholic Church in Douglas, with Fr. Cliff Jacobson as celebrant. Interment was at Douglas Park Cemetery.

Mr. Bennick died March 11, 2005 at his home in Douglas.

He was born Feb. 18, 1913, in Sheridan, to Charles Oscar and Ethel (Carson) Bennick. He was reared and educated on the Bennick homestead north of Gillette. He graduated from Campbell County High School in Gillette.

Mr. Bennick started working for Wyoming Highway Department of Transportation in 1938, working in Gillette, Reno Junction and Douglas. He retired in 1976 as the maintenance foreman in Douglas.

On May 25, 1940, he married Helen Lorraine Cates. Mr. Bennick has resided in Douglas since 1957, where he enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, golfing and yard work. He was a member of St. James Catholic Church. He will be remembered for his wit, humor and kindness.

He is survived by his children, Donnala Dean Gann of Houston, Miss., Judith Rae Bennick of Baltimore, Md., G. (Gordon) Bruce Bennick of Houston, Texas, and Carla Jeanne Bennick-Norris of Lander; grandsons Bradd Bennick of San Francisco, Calif., and Brett Bennick of Douglas; and great-grandson Brandon Bennick of Douglas.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Helen, on Sept. 4, 1993; and sister Darlene Rose.

Pallbearers were Bradd Bennick, Brett Bennick, Bob Britton, Steve Werth, Rick Hollon, Larry Shatto and Jim Shillenn.

Honorary pallbearers were Dave Hanlin, Jim Hanlin, Blake Hollon, David Gann, Sandy Linton, Perry Dennis and all of his many other friends.

A memorial to North Platte Home Health and Hospice, 1835 Madora, Suite 2, Douglas, or to Douglas Senior Citizens' Center, P.O.Box 192 would be appreciated by the family.

Gorman Funeral Homes-Converse Chapel of Douglas was in charge of the arrangements.
