Mass for Christian Burial for Helen Lorraine Bennick, 76, will be held Wednesday, Sept. 8, 1993, at 10 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church in Douglas, with Father John Murray as the Celebrant. Interment will be in the Douglas Park Cemetery.

Mrs. Bennick died Saturday, Sept. 4, 1993, at the Converse County Memorial Hospital in Douglas.

She was born Aug. 18, 1917, in Gillette, the daughter of James F. and Mabel (Rose) Cates. She was reared and educated in Gillette, where she graduated from the Gillette High School in 1934. She the received her normal training, attended University of Wyoming for one year, and then attended summer school at Black Hills State College in Spearfish, S.D. She taught school for four years in the rural school system of Campbell County.

She was married to Donald W. Bennick on May 25, 1940, in Gillette. They moved to Douglas in 1957, where she worked at the LaBonte Hotel and Kansas-Nebraska Energy as a cashier. She retired Feb. 1, 1980, and remained a resident of Douglas until the time of her death. She was a member of St. James Catholic Church and Business and Professional Women. She enjoyed reading, fishing, hunting, camping and shopping.

She is survived by her husband, Don, of Douglas; four children, Donnala Dean Gann of Houston, Miss., Judith Rae Bennick of Baltimore, Md., G. Bruce Bennick of Denver, and Carla Jeanne Norris of Lander; two brothers, James F. Cates, Jr., of Gillette and Clarence Cates of Sheridan; and two grandsons, Brett Bennick and Bradd Bennick both of Douglas.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Doris Stuppey, Clara Butler, and Katherine Hedlund; and one brother, Louis Cates.

Serving as pallbearers will be Brett Bennick, Brad Bennick, Bob Britton, Larry Shatto, Jim Bell and Rick Hollon.

Serving as honorary pallbearers will be all of her many friends.

A memorial to the Douglas Senior Citizens Center or to Home Care c/o Converse Funeral Chapel, P.O. Box X, Douglas, WY 82633 would be appreciated by the family.
