Douglas Budget - May 25, 2005Funeral services for Alvin Harold "Sonny" Burgland, 85, were Monday at Gorman Funeral Homes-Converse Chapel in Douglas, with Pastor Tom Strock of First Baptist Church in Lusk officiating.
Interment was in Douglas Park Cemetery.
Mr. Burgland died May 19, 2005, at Wyoming Medical Center in Casper.
He was born April 6, 1910, on the family homestead 13 miles north of Orpha to John Albert and Esther (Sundquist) Burgland. He was reared and educated in Converse County.
He married Eva Lenzen on July 16, 1949, in Douglas. He worked for the railroad from 1953-83, with most of the time spent west of Casper. He enjoyed yard sales, fishing and tinkering.
Mr. Burgland i survived by his wife, Eva Burgland, of Douglas; children Barb Tillard of Douglas and A. Curry Burgland of Sheridan; sisters Florence Zaichkin of Tacoma, Wash., and Caroline Burgland of Douglas; grandchildren Tara and husband Corey Davidson and Ty Tillard, all of Douglas, Cassie Burgland of Sheridan, and Tina Fulton of White Rock, S.C.; great-grandchildren Dylan, Taylor and Colby Davidson, Kylee Tafoya, Madison Tillard, all of Douglas and Braeden Harris of White Rock; and special nephew Jerry and wife Mary Kay Lenzen of Douglas.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Ethel Price and Opal Stinson.
Serving as pallbearers were Ty Tillard, Jerry Lenzen, Corey Davidson, Ken Grant, Curry Burgland and Terry Rider.
A memorial to the Jennifer Tillard Educational Scholarship Fund in care of Converse County Bank, P.O. Box 689, Douglas 82633 would be appreciated.
Gorman Funeral Homes-Converse Chapel of Douglas was in charge of the arrangements.
