Longtime Glendo resident dies
Douglas Budget - March 11, 1982Irene Gertrude Blankenship, age 68, died Saturday, March 6, 1982 at the Natrona County Memorial Hospital in Casper, Wy.
Irene the daughter of Marshall and Gertrude Thein Hansel was born February 20, 1914 in Greeley, Iowa. She was reared and educated in Iowa. As a young woman she moved to Wyoming in 1936 and has made Wyoming her home ever since.
She was married to Lewis A. Blankenship October 30, 1940 in Billings, Montana. They lived in various communities around Wyoming, because of Lewis' job with the railroad. They moved to Glendo in December, 1963 moving from Orin Junction, she has resided here until the time of her death. She attended the Glendo Community Church.
She is survived by her husband, Lewis of Glendo; one daughter Dorothy Lovell of Torrington, Wy.; two brothers Raymond Hansel of Manchester, Ia. and Marshall Hansel of Waterloo, Ia. Three sisters, Minnie Lynch of Rockford, Ill., Renabel Rocho of Freeport, Ill., and Grace Hansel of St. Olaf, Ia.; Three grandsons; six great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers; and three sisters.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 10, 1982 at 2:00 p.m. at the Glendo Community Church with the Rev. Harry Randall officiating. Interment was in the Horseshoe Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers; Les Parker, Irving Twiford, Russell Twiford, Bob Eller, Henry Wejmer, and Thomas J. Shipley.
A memorial has been established to the Glendo Community Church in Glendo. The Converse Funeral Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.
