Douglas Budget - January 17, 2001Memorial services for Julia Reese Bennett, 62, will be held at 2 p.m. Jan. 17 at St. James Catholic Church in Douglas.
Father Drew Duncan will officiate.
Mrs. Bennett died Jan. 10 in Abaline, Texas, following a heart attack.
She was born Nov. 30, 1938, to Luella and Henry Reese in Douglas.
She was reared and educated in Douglas and graduated from Douglas High School in 1956. In 1957, she married Tim Cross in Douglas. To this union three children were born.
in 1971, she moved to Texas and married Don Bennett. They lived in various parts of the state with the Diamond Back Company.
Mrs. Bennett was active in the Boer Goat Cookoff in Lorraine, Texas. She was a member of the Wyoming Outfitters Association. She loved the outdoors, hunting and especially her grandchildren. She was well-known for her rattlesnake jewelry and rattlesnake mounts.
She is survived by her husband, Don, of Lorraine, Texas; son George Cross and his wife Lona; daughters Julie Evins and husband Doyle of Douglas, Lea Walker and husband Howard of Douglas; grandchildren Nate and Nicholas Cross, Wendy Walker and Doyle and Daniel Evins, all of Douglas; and sister Norma Lample of Wasilla, Ala.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Interment was at Spade Ranch Cemetery in Colorado City, Texas.
