Douglas Budget - December 4, 1996Funeral services for Bernice Z. Burns, 75, were Tuesday, Dec. 3, at Converse Funeral Chapel in Douglas, with Rev. Merrill Lanker of Congregational United Church of Christ officiating.
Interment was in Douglas Park Cemetery.
Mrs. Burns died Thursday, Nov. 28, 1996, at Converse County Memorial Hospital.
She was born April 11, 1921, in Milburn, Neb., to Roy and Amy(Davis)Ullom. She attended schools in Milburn and Lusk.
She has resided in Douglas most of her adult life. She lived here with her sister and brother-in-law, Fred and Esther Anderson, and was employed with several Douglas businesses in her youth.
During World War II, she worked as a practical nurse at the P.O.W. camp, which was located in Douglas.
She married James I. Burns in Douglas on Dec. 19, 1953.
She enjoyed her dogs and crafts.
She is survived by sisters Tressia Currey of Riverton and Esther Anderson Pool of Scottsbluff, Neb.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Amy Ullom; her husband Jim; and one sister, Leona Ganow of Riverton.
Serving as pallbearers were Keith Campman, John Miller, Fred Rohlff, Keith Currey, Steve Anderson and Paul Treide.
A memorial to the American Cancer Society in care of Converse County Bank, P.O. Box 689, Douglas, would be appreciated by the family.
Converse Funeral Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.
