Douglas Budget - December 2, 1978LeRoy R. Bunning, aged 68, of Torrington, died at his home on Thursday, Dec. 14, 1978. He was born November 24, 1910 at Benkelman, Neb. the son of Frank and Grace (Wills) Bunning. He attended schools at Benkelman, Neb., Shawnee, and Douglas. On Nov. 4, 1936 he married Mary Pickinpaugh at Douglas.
Mr. Bunning worked for C.A. Slonaker and Son in Douglas for many years and then he worked for the City of Douglas until 1971 when an injury forced his retirement. The family moved to Torrington in 1974.
At the time of his death, Mr. Bunning was a crossing guard and a teacher's aid at Lincoln Elementary School in Torrington.
He is survived by his wife, Mary of Torrington, a step-son, Don Pickinpaugh of Midwest, three sons, Chuck Bunning of Cresent Valley, Nev., Lynn Bunning and David Bunning both of Torrington, three daughters Mrs. Velma Vizina of Sacramento, Calif., Mrs. Dixie Medisker of Meridian, Idaho and Mrs. Donna Koblert of Berthod, Colo., a sister Mrs. Frances Humphrey of Riverton, a step-sister Mrs. Grace Hernandez of Los Angeles, Calif., and a step-brother George Hanchett of Douglas. He is also survived by twenty-three grandchildren.
Funeral services were at 2:00 p.m. Monday, Dec. 18 at the Colyer Funeral Home in Torrington.
A memorial has been established to The American Diabetes Association.
