Douglas Budget - July 15, 1992Funeral services for Mabel W. Bey, 89, were held July 14, at the Wheatland Bible Church in Wheatland, with Pastor Gordon Swedberg and Pastor Floyd Hopper officiating. Interment was in the Wheatland Cemetery.
Mrs. Bey died Saturday, July 11, 1992 at the Converse County Memorial Hospital following an extended illness.
She was born Feb. 2, 1903 in Dunbar, Neb., the daughter of John and Mamie(Strong)West. She was reared and educated in the Dunbar area. She then moved to Lincoln, Neb., where she worked for the Martin family to support her mother, brother, and sister.
She was married to Raymond H. Bey on Sept. 26, 1942 in Denver, Colo. They came to Wheatland and farmed southwest of Wheatland until an accident forced them to move into Wheatland in 1954.
She came to Douglas on May 20 to be near her family, the John Bey family, because of ill health.
She was a member of the Wheatland Bible Church and the Pleasant Hour Club. She enjoyed writing poetry, gardening, crocheting, and sewing.
She is survived by her son, John Bey; daughter-in-law, Tandie Bey; grandchildren, Stacey Bey and Jeremy Bey all of Douglas; one brother, J.Eugene West of Eagle, Neb.; four nephews; two nieces; and numerous cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on Nov. 22, 1990; and one sister, Mary Wilson.
Serving as pallbearers were Ed Hunter, Galen Houser, Jeremy Bey, Mike West, Chuck West, and Einer Mickelsen.
A memorial to the Platte County Public Health Agency would be appreciated by the family.
The Platte Funeral Chapel of Wheatland was in charge of the arrangements.
