Douglas Budget - June 15, 1978Funeral services for Hubert Elwood Barkdoll, 75, were held Friday, June 9, 1978 at 2 p.m. at the Glendo Community Church.
The Reverand Frank Moore officiated. Burial was at the Horseshoe Cemetery.
Mr. Barkdoll, a long-time resident of the Glendo area, died Monday, June 5, at his ranch home west of Glendo.
Hubert was born March 28, 1903 in Gering, Nebraska to Sanford and Effie Barkdoll. He lived in the Gering area until 1921, when his father sold the ranch at Gering and they moved to the Glendo area.
Hubert and his father, moving their belongings, followed the Oregon Trail from Gering to Glendo, where his father homesteaded. Thereafter Hubert always lived along the Oregon Trail, and whenever he moved he followed the Trail. It crosses their ranch at Glendo, and also their ranch at Orin.
Hubert bought a relinquishment of a homestead and then proved upon it after he was married . On May 25, 1926 he was married to Adelaide Tachovsky in Casper, Wyoming. Hubert was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
He is survived by his wife, Adelaide, of Glendo; one son, Robert Gene Burkdoll of Casper; two brothers, Chester Barkdoll of Fabens, Texas and Paul Barkdoll of Kaycee, Wyoming; and one sister, Grace Waters of Laramie. Three grandchildren also survive him.
He was preceded in death by his parents and by three brothers, Ralph, Laurence and Ernest Barkdoll.
Serving as pallbearers were Adam Rexius, Martin Duff, Jack Eller, Bob Eller, Leo Foy, and Bill Gray. Schrader-Prell Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
