Douglas Budget - January 13, 1999Funeral services for John E. Brecht, 86, will be 4 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 14 at Our Saviour Lutheran Church in Torrington with Rev. Marvin L. Temme officiating.
Interment and graveside services will be at Wyoming Memorial Gardens in Casper at 10:30 a.m. Thursday. A reception will be held at the church in Torrington following the afternoon service.
Mr. Brecht died Sunday at Michael Manor in Douglas.
He was born May 24, 1912, in Scottsbluff, Neb. to Jacob and Maria (Herzog) Brecht. He was reared and educated in Scottsbluff and Torrington. He served in the Navy during World War II with the Seabees constructing air bases in the islands of the South Pacific. Following his discharge, Mr. Brecht returned to the Torrington and Scottsbluff areas.
He married Lottie Hasket on July 3, 1951, in Gering, Neb. He worked for the Bureau of Reclamation in the Casper area from 1946-72. In his retirement years, he returned to Torrington, where he farmed his father's homestead for four years and worked as a mechanic. Mr. Brecht was a member of Our Saviour Lutheran Church.
He is survived by sisters Katherine Aschenbrenner of Scottsbluff and Molly Lipscomb of Memphis, Tenn., and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lottie, on March 7, 1973; four brothers; and one sister.
A memorial to the American Lung Associating, P.O. Box 1128, Cheyenne 82003-1128, would be appreciated by the family.
