Douglas Budget - December 7, 1988Services for Willard Pershing Baxter, 70, who died in Douglas Dec. 1, were held Saturday, Dec. 3 in the Community Church in Glendo, with Pastor Dan Hickman officiating.
Willard "Bill" Baxter was born March 6, 1918 in White Sulpher Springs, Mont., the son of William and Hattie(Gingles)Baxter. In 1920 he and his family moved to Wyoming to the Laramie Peak area. In 1923 they moved to the ranch five miles west of Glendo where he remained until the time of his death.
On Dec. 31, 1951, he and Mary Morell were married in Douglas.
He served as treasurer for Platte County School District Number 8 and helped set up the Glendo Rodeo Club.
Survivors include two sons, Ronald Gould, of California, William R. Baxter, of Cheyenne; a daughter, Pam Anderson, of Glendo; two brothers, Leonard Baxter of Wapato, Wash., Lawrence Baxter of Casper; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and one sister.
Memorial contributions in his name may be made to the Willard "Bill" Baxter Memorial Scholarship.
Burial was in the Horseshoe Cemetery in Glendo. Nephews Bud, Bill, Richard and Rick Baxter, Jim and Leroy Lieurance served as pallbearers, and honorary pallbearers were Leo Foy, Don Cundall, Lee Wright, Fred Nance, Bob Twiford, and Gus Gruwell.
Platte Funeral Chapel of Wheatland was in charge of arrangements.
