Blevins, R.P. (Unknown - 1920)
Rev. R.P. Blevins Instantly
Douglas Budget - September 16, 1920Rev. R.P. Blevins, pastor of the Riverton Baptist church, formerly pastor of the Baptist church at Glenrock and well known in Douglas, was instantly killed while fishing at the Boysen dam near Shoshoni. The tip of his steel fishing rod came in contact with an electrical transmission line carrying 33,000 volts and the rod being a perfect conductor death was instantaneous.
Rev. Blevins was casting at the lake, thoughtless of the menace of the fluid death flowing silently through the wires suspended above him. He swung his pole vigorously with the intention of landing his lure far out in the lake. Persons near-by heard a click as the steel pole struck the copper wire, a crackling report like that of a minature lightning bolt and saw flames leap from the wire, pole and the body or the anger. Without a sound the clergyman crumbled up and the sickening odor of singed flesh arose from his seared body.
Rev. Blevins went to Riverton about a year ago from Glenrock. He is survived by a young widow and one small child.
