Douglas Budget - March 18, 1992Funeral services for William E. Ballard Jr., 58, were held March 13, at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Jon Laughlin officiating.
Interment was in the Douglas Park Cemetery with the Samuel Mares American Legion Post No. 8 conducting military graveside rites.
Mr. Ballard died Tuesday, March 10, 1992 at his mother's home in Douglas following a sudden illness.
He was born on the Ballard ranch in Converse County, with Doctor Lynch as the attending physician. He was the son of William E. and Elisabeth R. (Schick) Ballard Sr. He was reared on the family ranch and received his education in Niobrara County and Douglas.
He served in United States Army from June 9, 1953 to April 29, 1955 serving in the artillery division in West Germany. He worked as a trucker, various construction jobs, and in the oilfields. He was a member of the Samuel Mares American Legion Post No. 8.
He is survived by his mother, Elisabeth, of Douglas; one sister Barbara Schillinger of Laramie; three brothers, Donald W. Ballard of Douglas, Kenneth Ballard of Laramie, and Richard J. Ballard of Americus, Ga.; and two grandsons.
He was preceded in death by his father on June 4, 1978.
Serving as pallbearers were Earl Reed, Neil Irene, Jim Nachtman, Don Pellatz, Bob Stoddard, and George Riehle.
Serving as honorary pallbearers were Paul Burk, Gene Morvee, Bob Taylor, and Dave Thomson.
A memorial to the choice of the donor would be appreciated by the family.
The Converse Funeral Chapel of Douglas was in charge of the arrangements.
