Douglas Budget - July 14, 1921Mrs. Elizabeth Barnhart died at her home in Douglas Thursday, July 7, aged 74 years, 4 months and 5 days.
Elizabeth Goehing was born at Strausheimer, Baden, Germany, on March 2, 1847. She was married to John Helbig September 5, 1870. To this union eleven children were born, four of whom died in infancy and a daughter, Christine Barnhart, at the age of 37. On May 3, 1896, she was married to David Barnhart, who died December 26, 1909, after which she had made her home with her children.
Mrs. Barnhart early in life became a member of the Evangelical church, in which membership she continued until her death. Mr. and Mrs. Helbig were pioneer settlers of Nebraska.
The surviving children are Mrs. A.E. Barnhart, E.C. and George Helbig of North Loup, Neb.; Mrs. W. Misko of Ord, Neb.; Mrs. Harry Mitchell and P.J. Helbig of Douglas. She is also survived by a brother, Peter Goehing, of Sargeant, Neb., and another living in Germany, fifteen grandchildren, and one great grandchild.
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon, Rev. H.E. Shepherd officiating. Burial was in Douglas cemetery.
