Graveside services for Lewis William Barney, 69, were held Friday, Sept. 14, at the Oregon Trail State Veteran's Cemetery in Casper with the Rev. Charles Harman of Our Savior's Lutheran Church of Casper officiating. Interment was in the Oregon Trail State Veteran's Cemetery.

Mr. Barney died Tuesday, Sept. 11, 1990, at the Veteran's Administration Medical Center in Cheyenne.

He was born March 24, 1921 in Spencer, Neb., the son of William Henry and Goldie(Knapp) Barney.

He moved with his family when they homesteaded outside of Hot Springs, S.D. where he was reared and educated. He entered the United States Air Force and served during World War II. following his discharge he worked for his father on the family homestead.

He married Mary King, to this union three children were born. He later married Lucille Rooks in Broadus, Mont., on May 14, 1946. They were divorced and later remarried in Lusk on June 21, 1968. To this union were born six children.

He moved to Douglas in 1949 where he worked as a ranch hand for Cross Ranches and Glenn Edwards and Albert Sewell. He also worked as a mechanic. He retired in 1984 due to ill health. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, being a one bullet hunter. He was a barter, time for time; work for work. In his younger years he enjoyed being in rodeos.

He is survived by his wife Lucille of Douglas; nine children, Billie Engleman, Larry Barney, Judy O'Neal and Patty Henderson all of Douglas, Kathy Neuman, and Anita Walker, bot of Phoenix, Ariz., Ron barney of Denver, Colo., Tresa Hoyt of Glenrock, and Jeannie Bessette of Scenic, S.D.; three brothers, William Barney of Modesto, Calif., Rex Barney of Rapid City, S.D., russell Barney of Oakley, Calif.; fifteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by both parents and one sister, Adele.

The Converse Funeral Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.
