Douglas Budget - June 14, 1995Funeral services for Lela Ellen Ballard, 82, were June 10 at the First United Methodist Church in Douglas, with Rev. Bill Moore officiating.
Interment was in the Douglas Park Cemetery.
Mrs. Ballard died Wednesday, June 7, 1995, at Michael Manor.
She was born March 9, 1913, in Winterset, Iowa, to Joseph and Stella(Beem)Craven. She was reared and educated in Winterset, graduating from Winterset High School. She married Carroll Eugene Ballard on June 6, 1937, in Winterset. They moved to Douglas that same year.
After cosmetology school, she worked in Douglas for numerous years. She joined her husband in their ranching operation before purchasing the Blue Moon Motel, which they operated until their retirement.
Mrs. Ballard was a member of Converse County CowBelles, American Legion Auxiliary, and First United Methodist Church. She enjoyed her house plants and cooking and was an accomplished seamstress.
She is survived by a son, James Ballard, and a daughter, Shirley Ballard, both of Douglas; a sister, Letha Jackson of Winterset; a brother, Lester Craven of Des Moines, Iowa; granddaughters Delyn Graham and Wyndi Ballard, both of Chandler, Ariz., and Shileen Ballard of Mesa, Ariz.; grandson Shad Ballard of Douglas; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on April 15, 1989; and her brother Floyd Craven.
Serving as pallbearers were Bud Tillard, Bud Turner, Earl Reed, Duane Haefele, Bernie Seebaum and J.R. Stoddard.
Converse Funeral Chapel of Douglas was in charge of arrangements.
