INSTANTLY KILLED,

Tom Bird, of Thermopolis, Shot Down by a Man Named Hansen

Bill Barlows Budget - December 23, 1896

Word was received at Casper from Thermopolis on Saturday night last that Tom Bird was shot and instantly killed by a liveryman named Hansen, who surrendered to the authorities and has been taken to Lander. the affair is said to have grown out of illicit relations between Mrs. Bird and Hansen, and consequent threats made by Bird. Bird attended a dance one night last week, and as he entered the room Hansen shot him twice, killing him instantly. Bird was unarmed.

Tom Bird was a partner in the firm of J.E. Higgins & Co., of Thermopolis. He formerly lived in Glenrock, and was a deputy sheriff under Sheriff Virden one term. He was a quiet, genial gentleman, whose friends throughout this section are legion. His death is sincerely regretted.
