Dr. Arnold was born Feb. 11, 1917, to George H. Arnold Sr. and Gertrude (Degnan) Arnold.

A native of Douglas, he lived here until his graduation from the University of Colorado School of Medicine in Denver in 1942.

He served in the U.S. Army as a Battalion Surgeon with the 1st Battalion, 172nd Regiment, 43rd Infantry Division in the south and southwest Pacific from 1943-1946.

He was awarded the Silver Star, Bronze Star, Combat Medical Badge, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal with four Bronze Stars, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Star and the Bronze Arrowhead Luzon.

Dr. Arnold practiced medicine in Oakland, Calif., until 1953 and in Chula Vista, Calif., where he remained until his retirement in 1982, He then moved to Grass Valley.

He was a Fellow of American Academy of Family Practice, a member of the California Medical Association and American Medical Association.

He was preceded in death by his wife Darleen.

He is survived by daughters Mary Anne, Kathleen and Stacy; son Bradley; and four grandchildren John, Kelli, Evan and Jake.
