Douglas Budget - April 10, 1986Funeral services for James Curtis Baughn were held April 5 at the United Methodist Church in Riverton with the Rev. J. Holland Vernon officiating. Interment was at Mount View Cemetery in Riverton.
Mr. Baughn did at his home in Riverton April 2, a victim of cancer.
Baughn was born in Manville March 1, 1906, the youngest of eight children born to E.B. and Jennie A. Baughn. He attended Manville schools where he was outstanding in track and basketball.
After Mr. Baughn's marriage to Marian Mabel Porter Sept. 30, 1928, they established a homestead in the Walker Creek Community north of Douglas. In 1934, the family moved to Lance Creek where Mr. Baughn worked at the old carbon black plant until it closed.
The family lived in the Manville/Lance Creek area until 1957 when Rocky Mountain Pipe Line transferred Baughn to the Circle Ridge Field near Riverton.
Mrs. Baughn died in 1960; Mr. Baughn married Attia Gana O'Hara on August 11, 1961 and continued to work for Rocky Mountain Pipeline until his retirement in 1968.
In addition to his widow, Mr. Baughn is survived by one sister, Tessie Valentine of Lusk; a son, David Baughn of Spartansberg, South Carolina; daughters Shirley Barkley of Casper and Tess Marie Finley of Chadron, Neb.; two step-daughters, Celestial(Peggy)Forbis and Colleen Miller, both of Riverton; 20 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, and numerous other relatives.
Pallbearers were Jim Forbis, Tim Forbis, J.D. Miller, Dick Hinkle, Dewayne Peterson, Jim McDonald.
Honorary pallbearers were Bobby Baughn, Gary Lee Baughn, David Doane, Robert Doane, James Dugan, Alan Dugan, and Bill Joe Dugan.
Memorials to the Riverton Senior Citizens or the American Cancer Society will be equally appreciated by the family.
