Nephew Of Bartling's Is Lost In

Action

Douglas Enterprise - July 20, 1943

W.F. Bartling received word this week that his nephew, Ensign Leonard Bartling of Sheridan, who attended the Douglas grade schools in 1934 and lived with the Bartlings, was lost in action July 3.

Bartling, who was 22 years of age, was a naval fighter pilot and had been operating off a carrier at an undisclosed location.

The Bartlings had received word earlier that he was missing but their fears that he was lost were confirmed in a telephone conversation with the young man's father. Leonard Bartling, who had learned that several of Leonard's buddies had seen him crash into the sea.

The young man had many friends here who will be saddened to learn of his fate. Many of his school chums here are now in the armed forces.
