Funeral liturgy and Vigil for the Deceased for Samuel J. Barone, 77, were March 24 at Saint James Catholic Church in Douglas with Father John Murray as celebrant.

Interment was in Oregon Trail Veterans' Cemetery in Evansville.

Mr.. Barone died Wednesday, March 19, 1997, at Memorial Hospital of Converse County.

He was born May 8, 1919, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Salvador and Stella(Delmartino)Barone. He was educated in Brooklyn and attended College of William and Mary in Virginia and graduated from Brooklyn Technical School.

He served in the Army from Oct. 24, 1940, to Aug. 5, 1944, during World War II, and he received the Purple Heart.

He married Jennie Imbesi on Oct. 7, 1942, at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Brooklyn.

He worked as an architect in Brooklyn and various other places throughout the United States. He retired in 1981 in La Mesa, Calif. He has also lived in various states in his retirement years and has been a resident of Douglas since March 1, 1995. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Moose Lodge and Catholic Church.

He is survived by his wife Jennie of Douglas; daughters Dorathea Fortier of Selden. N.Y., and Jacqueline Goss of Douglas; sister Rose Freshella of Brooklyn; brother Anthony Barone of Seattle, Wash.; nine grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, one sister and two grandchildren.

Serving as pallbearers were James Curtis, Ray Goss, Leo Goss Sr., Leo Goss Jr., Ronald Fortier and William Burlison.

Converse Funeral Chapel in Douglas was in charge of the arrangements.
