She was born Frances Brayton on Sept. 19, 1907, in Harlem, N.D. She grew up and attended school in Stirum, N.D., and later Cogswell, where she graduated from high school in 1923. She then received her teaching certificate in Ellendale, N.D.
From 1923-27, she taught in Sargent County, N.D. On Sept. 19, 1928, she married Earl Archer Bell in Cogswell, where they lived. He died in 1958 and she began working for Cogswell school.
in 1961, she began working in the Sargent County Auditor's Office and retired as deputy auditor in 1982. In 1986, she moved to Oakes, N.D., and returned to Cogswell in 1988. In 1989 she entered Sargent Manor.
She is survived by sons Earl and wife Peggy of Bellingham, Wash., Thomas of Fargo; daughters Patricia Ann Tomlin of Douglas and Mary Margaret Roning and husband Joseph of Cogswell; stepson Dana Bell of Topeka, Kan.; stepdaughters Harriet Gilbertson and husband Verne and June Stringer of Ontario, Canada; brother Maynard Brayton of California; 12 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
