Douglas Budget - October 31, 2007Larry V. Alexander, 69, died Oct. 25, 2007, at the Gordon Memorial hospital. Larry was born in North Platte, Neb., to Verlin C. and Jennie M. Alexander. They both preceded him in death.
Larry was the beloved husband of Darlene. Larry was a loving father to Lola DuBray, and her husband John of Gordon, and their six children, Tim, John, Vanessa, Mike, Samantha and Shelby; Steve Alexander and wife Myra of Hot Springs, S. D., and their children, Andrew and Tona; Mark Alexander and his wife Amy of Inwood, Iowa, and their children, Tiffany, Harley, Max, Alex, Chevy, and Cheyenne; Karen Lynn and her husband Chris of Douglas and their children Brittany, Kristen and Kalyn; Stanley Alexander and his wife Connie of Rapid City, S.D., and their children Nova and Felicity. He was a brother to Jim, Ted, Bill, Jane and Vicky. He had many cousins and nieces and nephews and was a grandfather and great-grandfather to Jaclyn, Shaylee and Little Jake. Larry will be dearly missed by all who encountered him.
Larry will be remembered for his love of life and the chance to make a difference in each of those old lawn mowers that made it to his personal home for retired lawn mowers. He was a Veteran of the 101st Airborne of the United States Army, a race car driver and logger. He was an honorary professor for the School of Mines in Rapid City, S.D. He loved the woods and strongly believed in maintaining God's greatest garden, that others may enjoy it too. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and mechanic and to many went on with their journey to be with the Lord, because of him.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Nov. 1 at the United church in Edgemont, S.D. Burial with military honors will be in the Edgemont Cemetery.
A Memorial Service will also be held at 11 a.m. on Nov. 3 at the Victory Hill Assembly of God Church, south of Clinton, Neb.
A memorial has been established, and donations may be sent to the Bank of the West, P.O. Box 250, Gordon, NE, 69343.
Chamberlain-Pier Funeral home was in charge of arrangements.
