Douglas Budget - August 14, 2002Funeral services for Leroy "Bud" Black, 84, of Sheridan were held Saturday at Kane Funeral Home with Pastor Ray Calentine officiating.
Interment was in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery.
He died Aug. 7 at Westview Health Care Center.
Mr. Black was born on Dec. 14, 1917, to Hugh C. and Julia L. (Baxter)Black. He grew up on the family homestead near the Cheyenne River in Niobrara County.
He married Eleanor "Sis" Prell on July 1, 1950. They sold the homestead in the early 1960s and moved to Big Horn and later to Sheridan.
Mrs. Black died in 1975. On Dec. 3, 1976, he married Elsie Bartholow-Dillin.
Mr. Black traveled and worked road construction as a mechanic-welder throughout Wyoming and Montana. He retired from Big Horn Coal in 1984.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling.
He built a rock garden complete with waterfall in their backyard in his spare time to enjoy the bird life.
Mr. Black was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, his five brothers, six of his sisters, and his grandson Jake Black.
He is survived by his wife; sons and their spouses Shelley L. and Dixie Black of Big Horn and Thomas and Gayle Dillin of Gillette; daughters and their spouses Sherry and Don Kelley of Douglas, Sharlotte and Mike Pulver of Gillette, Sharon and Dick VanWinkle of Casper, Carol and Tom Harrison of Gillette, Mary and Brad Shurtleff of Salt Lake City and Betty and Mike Finn of Green River; 16 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sister Elizabeth Mosted of Black Duck, Minn.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family has requested that memorials be made to the Bud Black Memorial Fund in care of Delphine Toner, First Interstate Bank, P.O. Box 2007, Sheridan 82801.
