Douglas Budget - February 8, 2006Former Douglas resident Theodore John "TJ" Bernard, 55, died Jan. 31, 2006, in Elko, Nev.
He was born Sept. 6, 1950, to Don and Jeanette(Kirk)Bernard in Woodburn, Ore. He graduated from John F. Kennedy High School in Mount Angel, Ore., in 1969.
He moved to Douglas in 1976 and worked for Bear Creek Uranium Mine until 1987, when he moved to Battle Mountain, Nev. There he worked for McCoy Mines as a haul truck driver.
He enjoyed deer hunting in Paisley, Ore., exploring the Nevada desert for artifacts and rocks, and cutting and hauling wood. He loved working in his shop creating stained glass pieces, woodworking and working on his 1967 Chevelle.
Survivors include his wife Lorene Bernard of Battle Mountain; son Glenn Bernard of Denver; daughter Terri Petrjanos of St. Paul, Ore.; brothers Michael Bernard of St. Paul, Stanley Bernard of Lynnwood, Wash., David Bernard of Mandan, N.D.; sister Nannette Fleck of Mount Angel; and grandchildren Brittney, Christopher, Allyson and Matthew Petrjanos and Mason and Sydnie Bernard.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father.
A memorial mass will be held at St. Paul Catholic Church Feb. 18 at 11 a.m., with a reception immediately following at the St. Paul Fire Department.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made for tuition assistance at St. Paul Parochial School or to the St. Paul Ambulance Fund.
