Brian, George (Unknown - September, 1917)

BRIAN SEES SHERIFF - TAKES

HIS OWN LIFE

Douglas Enterprise - September 25, 1917

George Brian, who was representing the JA6 outfit at Tom Bell's roundup some distance north of here, shot himself through the temple a few days ago just as the rest of the outfit were beginning the day's work. Thursday afternoon the sheriff of Niobrara county happened to be in the neighborhood of the roundup and called upon the boys. Seeing him, Brian asked a comrade who he was and upon being informed of the officer's position, became sullen. The next morning he put a bullet through his head.

Little is known of Brian around here but it is said that he came from Montana several months ago and has since been connected with the JA6 outfit. It is believed that he is an exconvict, possibly escaped, and that he took his life rather than be taken back to prison, undoubtedly thinking that the officer was looking for him. The body was brought to Douglas Saturday and prepared for shipment to Springfield, Missouri, where relatives will take charge of the burial.
