Douglas Enterprise - May 9, 1939An air of sadness prevailed over Converse county high school when students learned of the sudden death Sunday night at 8 o'clock of James Blackman, 15-year-old member of the sophomore class.
He had submitted to an appendicitis operation a week previous in the Douglas hospital, and complications set in, causing his death.
James Harlan Blackman was born Sept. 14, 1923, in Douglas, the son of James A. and Pearle Blackman, and passed away at the age of 15 years, seven months, and 23 days.
He attended the rural schools for eight years, before entering Douglas high. Surviving are his parents; a sister, Lydia; and a brother, Wayne.
James Blackman was a youth of a pleasant nature, a sunny disposition. He was a good student and had made numerous friends in his two years of high school here. His untimely passing is of deep regret.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Baptist church, with the Rev. J.M. Falconer officiating. Burial will be in Douglas Park cemetery.
