Douglas Budget - March 11, 2009Graveside services for James Hugh Bartsche, 82, were held March 6 at Douglas Park Cemetery with the Rev. Carol A. Prochaska of Congregational United Church of Christ officiating. Military honors were accorded by Samuel Mares American Legion Post #8 and Wyoming Army National Guard Military Funeral Honors.
Jim Bartsche, a lifelong resident of Converse County, died March 3, 2009, at Memorial Hospital of Converse County.
Jim was reared on the family ranch in the Boxelder area south of Glenrock. He attended high school in Douglas.
He entered the U.S. Navy on Nov. 15, 1944, and was discharged on July 26, 1946. He was a fireman first class during World War II. He returned to Converse County following his discharge.
He worked for Charlie Irwin at Irwin's Furniture Store and as a mechanic at Messick Ford and Platte Motor in Douglas. He worked at the Dave Johnston Power Plant for awhile, and owned and operated J.B. Repair until his retirement. He restored antique tractors and trucks in his retirement years.
He married Vera I. Epperly on July 25, 1952, in Douglas. He was a member of the Samuel Mares American Legion Post #8. He also enjoyed working on stationary gas engines and doing all types of puzzles.
He is survived by his wife Vera of Douglas; daughters Debbie (Leon) Scott of Reno, Nev., and Becky Bartsche (Wayne Bryan Jr.) of Douglas; sisters Ruth (Ray)Warnock of Douglas and Betty Olsen of Glenrock; and his dog, Jack.
He was preceded in death by his father Leonard on May 5, 1978; his mother Grace on Oct. 1, 2005; and brother Leonard Leman Bartsche on Dec. 18, 1978.
A memorial to the Samuel Mares American Legion Post #8, P.O. Box 1, Douglas, WY 82633 would be appreciated by the family.
