Douglas Budget - July 2, 1953Funeral services for James Sanford Ammons were held Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 at Stark's chapel, with Rev. Kenneth Moore officiating. Burial was in Douglas Park cemetery. Mr. Ammons died Monday at Memorial hospital.
Mr. Ammons was born March 18, 1870 in West Virginia and came west to Iowa with his parents at the age of nine, making part of the trip in a covered wagon. He moved to Wyoming in 1909 and worked for the Chicago, Northwestern railway until his retirement in the 1930's.
On July 21, 1901, he was united in marriage with Mrs. Hattie Byxbe at Promise City, Ia. He was a member of the Christian church and a devout believer in the scriptures.
Survivors include two sons, Wendell of Douglas and LeRoy of Denver, Colo.; five daughters, Mrs. Mary Skelton and Mrs. Lillian Foster of Douglas, Mrs. Alice Durham and Mrs. Wilda Toleman of Greybull and Mrs. Gertrude Smith of Laramie. Two children preceded him in death.
Since his retirement, Mr. Ammons had made his home near his children. He had been here at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Ralph Skelton, four months at the time of his death.
Pallbearers were Elon King, Fred Graves, Marcus Graves, Virgil Metcalf, Tome Cook and Allen McMichael.
