George Carroll Passes Away
Tuesday Noon in Los Angeles Former Prominent Douglas Resident Dies of Heart Attack-Funeral There Friday
Unknown - April 5, 1945George E. Carroll, 70, former longtime resident and business man of Douglas, died about noon Tuesday in Los Angeles where he had lived the past three years. Word of his passing came by telegram to his son, Elmer Carroll, a few hours later. Death was the result of a heart attack. He had recovered from two such attacks about six weeks ago.
Funeral services will be held in Los Angeles Friday and burial will be at Forest Lawn cemetery in that city. Elmer left Douglas at 9 o'clock Tuesday night, boarded a plane at Cheyenne at 4:53 Wednesday morning and arrived in Los Angeles at 11:15 that same morning.
George Ernest Carroll was born at Canton, Mass., on March 13, 1875, the son of Daniel W. and Annie Bisbee Carroll. He came to Douglas in 1901 and for many years was employed by the George Bolln grocery company. He operated a transfer line here at one time and was in the restaurant business when he left for Los Angeles in July of 1942 to make his home.
On January 23, 1903, he was united in marriage to Fannie M. Patterson. The Carroll's owned their own home in Los Angeles, at 5340 Bonsallo Ave.
Besides his wife and son, Elmer, he is survived by another son, Richard, and a daughter, Catherine, both of Los Angeles, and three grandchildren, Marguerite, Mary Frances and William George Carroll of Douglas.
