Douglas Budget - November 9, 1972Funeral services for Arthur (Bud) Carothers, 59, were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, November 8 at Stark-Lapham Chapel in Douglas, with the Rev. C. Daniel Clark of the United Methodist church officiating. Mr. Carothers passed away Sunday at Converse County Memorial Hospital. He had been in ill health since June.
A native of Douglas, "Bud" was born July 6, 1913 to early day residents Matthew D. and Blanche George Carothers. He attended rural schools completing his education in Douglas. He and the former Dorothy Stone were united in marriage March 26, 1939, by the Rev. John Falconer, former pastor of the First Baptist Church of Douglas.
Bud resided on the family ranch until 1945 when he and his family moved to Douglas, but he retained half interest in the ranch until a few years ago. For a number of years he owned an interest in the Trading Post and later assumed custodial duties at South Grade School and the Court House. He was also employed by the Wyoming State Fair.
Survivors other than his wife Dorothy, include two sons, Matt of Phoenix, Arizona; and Michael of the family home; two daughters, Mrs. Gerald (Eleanor) Hoffman, Douglas, and Mrs. Don (Sandra) Morris, Evansville, Wyoming; two brothers, George W. of Douglas and Doug of Maricopa, Arizona; a sister, Mrs. Dale (Margaret) Anderson, Wheatland, Wyoming; and five grandchildren.
Pallbearers were John Pollock, George Wills, Dan Rodeman, Melvin Jeffery, Arthur Hageman, Jr. and Don Sullivan. Serving as honorary pallbearers were Melvin Hoffman, Arthur Howard, Earl Scott, Kenneth Sylvester, Merwin Schlichting, George Falkenburg and Larry Hall.
Burial was in Douglas Park Cemetery.
