Douglas Budget - May 17, 1984Funeral services for Gertrude E. Clayton, age 90, were held Wednesday, May 9, 1984 at 1 p.m. at the Christ Episcopal Church with Father James Wolfkiel officiating. Interment was in the Douglas Park Cemetery.
The Rebekah Lodge conducted graveside services. Mrs. Clayton died Monday, May 7, 1984 at the Converse Memorial Hospital after a short illness.
Gertrude the daughter of William and Jenny Finch Lythgoe was born January 6, 1894 at Carbon, Wyoming. As a young girl she moved to Glenrock with her parents. She attended grade school in Glenrock, and she graduated from the Converse County High School in Douglas.
She was married to Earl S. Clayton September 9, 1916 at Douglas. They lived on the Clayton ranch at the foot of Bats Canyon south of Glenrock. They moved to Douglas in 1945, where she resided until the time of her death.
She was a 50 year member of the Rebekah Lodge; 45 years member of Wyoming Agriculture Extension Club; VFW Auxillary; AARP; and Christ Episcopal Church.
She is survived by two grandsons; Earl Clayton of Evergreen, Colo. and Rick Clayton of Los Angeles, Ca.; two granddaughters, Jill Abbott of Golden, Colo. and Dee Lue Leaf of Sterling, Colo.; daughter-in-law, Betty Noffsinger of Escondido, Ca.; and one brother, Harlo Lythgoe of Greeley, Colo.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1958; one son, Everett, in 1960; and three brothers.
Serving as pallbearers were Jim Hildebrand, Richard Cuthbertson, Bob Hunsicker, Bob Siebken, Duane Siebken, an Glenn Redfield.
A memorial has been established to the Rebekah Lodge of Douglas.
The Converse Funeral Chapel of Douglas was in charge of the arrangements.
