He was born Aug. 15, 1920, in Cedar Rapids, Neb., the son of Grover and Mary E. (Lieber) Coe. He spent his childhood in Wolbach, Neb. and moved to Douglas when he was a junior in high school. He graduated from Converse County High School in 1939.

He served in World War II in the Army Air Force and later in the 78th Infantry, Lightning Division in the European Theatre and was awarded the Bronze Star Oak Leaf Cluster. He served in the Army of Occupation until his discharge in 1946.

Upon returning to Douglas, he began working at the Douglas National Bank, then at Converse County Bank for the remainder of his career. He was elected president and member of the board of directors in 1960. During that time he served one years as the treasurer of the Wyoming Banking Association (WBA) and later was honored by the WBA "For over 25 years service to Wyoming banking." He retired in 1992.

His community activities included commander of the Samuel Mares American Legion Post #8, president of Douglas Community Club, treasurer and president of the Douglas Chamber of Commerce, treasurer of the Wyoming 75th Anniversary Commission, treasurer of the Converse County Cancer Fund, and numerous other philanthropic projects in Douglas. Local awards included the Douglas Chamber of Commerce Man of the Year, the Douglas Business and Professional Women's Club Boss of the Year and the Converse County Farm Bureau Non-Member Distinguished Service Award.

He was an active member of the Congregational United Church of Christ since 1949, working in many capacities including deacon, trustee, moderator, and chairman of a pulpit search committee.

He married Geraldine Ada "Gerry" Greene on April 16, 1948, in Douglas. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He especially enjoyed boating with his family, watching football games and was an avid "crossword puzzler."

He loved the music of the 40's and would whistle the tunes perfectly as he listened to his tapes. He had a unique sense of humor and was always trying to make everyone's day a little brighter with smiles from his jokes. From 1979 until Gerry's death in 2004, the couple spent their winters in Arizona, always returning home to Wyoming for the summer months.

He is survived by his daughter Susan C. Robertson of Cheyenne; his grandchildren, Jamie (Andrew) Eastman and Mark Robertson; three nieces, one nephew and their families.
